Tattoo Time Lapse video – 6 hour job in 1 minute
Here is my time lapse video of a tattoo done by Derek Nelson “Dex”, at Bodycraft Tattoo Studio in Nottingham.
It took over 6 hours to make the tattoo of a Phoenix on his whole arm.
Great job Dex and many thanks to the guy for willing to be filmed whilst standing the pain for such a long time.
I have set my Nikon D200 on a tripod, connected to the mains, downloading pictures straight to the laptop (with Sofortbild app) as the interval was 4 seconds so in the end I finished with over 5700 pictures. Since I wasn’t sure how long it would take to make that whole tattoo I didn’t want to risk running out of space on my memory card. Shooting indoors you can always plug yourself in to the mains and be sure not to run out of battery life just at the end of the shoot. Make sure you buy a camera that can be connected to the mains. I know many entry level DSLRs don’t have that option. My good old Nikon D200 does.
Also Nikon has a intervalometer built into the camera’s software so you can use that to set the intervals and number of pictures (up to 999 only). If you are a Canon user then you must get yourself a remote shutter release with interval feature. Around £20 on Ebay.
Batch-processed everything in Lightroom and composed in Time Lapse Assembler with 30fps. Should have done it with 25fps, don’t remember why I picked 30 but it works.
Later finished time lapse movie was post processed in iMovie, and sped up to 400%. Original was a few minutes long, way too long and too boring for a normal viewer. Added music in post production too.
Thanks for reading.
